Gunstar Super Heroes is a side-scrolling action game developed by Treasure and published by Sega for the Game Boy Advance in 2005. It was the sequel to the original Gunstar Heroes which was released in 1993 for the Sega Genesis. Gunstar Super Heroes takes the same basic game mechanics and visual style of the original and modernizes it with a new story, characters, and improved graphics.
The plot follows Fire, a Gunstar Hero, and his allies Chase and Tex as they battle the Evil Empire for control of four powerful weapons known as the Four Elements. These weapons were embedded in the bodies of four powerful robots created by the Empire to help them take over the world. As Fire and his allies make their way through the treacherous terrain of each robot one by one, they must battle the Empire’s loyal robot forces, as well as some of its more powerful commanders.
The gameplay of Gunstar Super Heroes follows a basic side-scrolling action game format, with Fire able to move up, down, left, and right as he traverses the game's various levels. As Fire makes his way through the levels, he is confronted with numerous enemies to defeat in order to progress. Fire is armed with two weapons at the outset of the game; a basic gun and a melee weapon. He can also pick up four special weapons during his travels: four elemental weapons that correspond to the four elements of fire, ice, thunder, and wind. These weapons have various effects and strengths, and can be combined to perform powerful multi-elemental attacks. In addition, Fire is equipped with a shield and special jump jets that will allow him to reach high locations and purchase store items.
As Fire progresses through the levels, he will come across bosses that must be defeated in order to move on. These bosses usually have unique attacks and strategies that must be employed in order to defeat them. When defeated, Fire must collect all four pieces of the elemental weapon hidden within the boss before he moves on.
Gunstar Super Heroes is a thrilling and challenging game with a great story and unique characters. The visuals are colorful and detailed, and the musical score is catchy and memorable. The game's controls are responsive and the controls are easy to learn, which makes it a great game for newcomers and veteran action game players alike.
