According to Meta, the selection of trending topics will be driven by their AI system, which analyzes ongoing conversations within Threads. Ada Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, elaborated on this, stating, "Specific trends will be determined by our AI system based on what people are actively discussing on Threads."
What adds intrigue to this development is Threads' intention to surface trends related to politics and elections. This decision follows Meta's recent announcement regarding the cessation of political content recommendations unless users explicitly follow political accounts.
Meta has confirmed that such restrictions will not extend to its trending feature. A Meta spokesperson clarified, "Political content can indeed become a trending topic. We will only remove political topics if they violate our Community Guidelines or other applicable integrity policies."
